Congratulations to the University of Kentucky, Department of Family & Community Medicine Primary Care Training Enhancement (PCTE) program. Roberto Cardarelli, DO, MPH; Chair, Department of Family & Community Medicine accepted the APTR Outstanding Educational Program Award during the annual luncheon at Teaching Prevention 2020.

This award honors an innovative program, department or academic institution for advancing education in prevention and public health. Individuals responsible for the establishment, success, growth, or management of the academic program which furthers students' interest in the field are honored.

The PCTE program seeks to enhance training to produce primary care providers to practice in and lead transforming healthcare delivery. This project, funded by HRSA, allows trainees to learn about the integration of health disparities and social determinant factors through clinic and population-based analyses and to apply transformational methodologies that will drive improved clinical services accordingly.  We focus on the quadruple aims of enhancing patient experience, improving population health, reducing costs, and improving the work life of health care providers, including staff. This project is in collaboration with the UK Colleges of Nursing and Social Work and trains medical students, family medicine residents, social work students, Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and other health professions trainees, and will prepare faculty to teach these learners. Training will prepare trainees to care for marginalized populations in urban and rural areas.
