APTR-ODPHP Resident Highlight

A recent publication on features the accomplishments of APTR-ODPHP Health Policy Resident, Vincent Beswick-Escanlar, MD, CCFP who is currently a Preventive Medicine resident at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD.The article, entitled "Could State Laws Around Opioid Continuing Education Help Tackle the National Opioid Epidemic?",details his policy-focused project which examines state requirements for continuing education."I'm looking at legislation in every state to determine if medical providers need opioid-related continuing education to either prescribe opioids, or more generally to get a license to practice." Prescription opioid misuse is a serious public health issue, as drug overdose deaths are the leading cause of injury death in the United States.


The APTR-ODPHP Health Policy Residency Rotation Program provides excellent learning opportunities and applications in health policy for Preventive Medicine and Primary Care residents. Residents have the opportunity to work on national preventive health initiatives as well as attend meetings and briefings with senior staff/leadership, high-level policy makers and other prevention-related activities in the Washington, DC area.
