Forty graduate
students from 36 institutions across the nation represented medical, physician
assistant, dental, pharmacy, public health, physical/occupational therapy, and
graduate nursing disciplines during the 2015 Student Leadership Symposium held
in Washington, D.C. from June 26-28. The 2015 class of APTR Paul Ambrose Scholars
are dedicated to bringing health promotion and preventive approaches to health
professions education and their communities.
Throughout the
leadership development program, participants attended presentations focused on perspectives on prevention,
healthcare and the economy, health policy advocacy, project planning and
community organizing, health literacy, funding opportunities, media relations,
social determinants of health, and careers in public health and
prevention. The symposium provides an
interprofessional opportunity for students to learn leadership and
organizational skills from expert faculty in the field of prevention and
population health.
The Paul Ambrose
Scholars Program (PASP) is planned and implemented by APTR and sponsored by the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion
(ODPHP) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). PASP seeks to meet the current and future
health needs of the public by providing mini-grant funds to implement a Healthy
People 2020 Leading Health Indicators project within a student's community or
at their academic institution. Learn more about the program at: http://www.aptrweb.org/pasp
