APTR invites faculty and members to the second webinar in our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion series, focusing on the assessment of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in curricula and course syllabi. This interactive webinar will describe a self-assessment tool created by Rutgers University School of Public Health and adapted by Boston University School of Public Health for faculty to help align their teaching with their commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice. Boston University School of Public Health strives to recognize and support the diversity of its students and their experiences, whether in the classroom, in the community, or in their personal lives by having its faculty use this Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice Syllabus Assessment Tool. The self-assessment asks faculty to consider eight dimensions of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice and reflect on the presence or incorporation of these dimensions into their syllabus, classroom, or teaching methods. The syllabus assessment tool is designed to identify areas of strength and opportunities for growth, is non-evaluative, and is meant to act as a guide and planning tool for faculty and administrators. The BU tool’s creators will walk attendees through the need for, design, deployment, and potential impact of the tool, and will address participant questions. Participants will then join small-group discussion breakout rooms led by the presenters to discuss the meaning of each domain, options for deploying the tool, reflections, and resources needed to begin applying the tool to update syllabi. Please bring syllabi to the breakout session. Who should attend? Deans, Department Chairs, Program Directors, Faculty, Instructional Designers, and any other partner involved in the development, implementation and evaluation of curricula and syllabi. Additional Discussion on March 28 at APTR Annual Meeting A follow-up roundtable session will be held for webinar participants at the APTR annual meeting, Teaching Prevention 2023, March 27-29 in New Orleans, LA. Faculty are invited to bring their own syllabi to the conference to review, share, and discuss during a roundtable session with webinar moderator Dr. Carly Levy of MCPHS University.
