Webinar & Virtual Discussion: Population Health Mini-Course for Health Department Professionals

The Association for Prevention Teaching and Research (APTR) is inviting members to build their external networks by serving on an Advisory Workgroup for the upcoming project: Mini Course for Public Health Professionals: Foundations of Population Health Science and Practice. This project is sponsored through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Center for Surveillance, Epidemiology and Laboratory Services. APTR departmental member Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science was awarded a 2-year Workforce Improvement Project subaward to develop a Workforce Improvement Project (WIP) on population health science basics for incumbent workers in the public health sector. APTR members are welcome to attend this webinar without serving on the Workgroup.

This webinar will introduce APTR members to this online training program for public health department workers and the proposed curriculum framework for the six modules that will comprise the mini-course:

  1. Population Health Assessment
  2. Epidemiology
  3. Social Determinants of Health
  4. Designing and Evaluating Interprofessional Population- Level Interventions
  5. Policy Innovations in Population Health
  6. COVID-19 Specific Content

During this webinar, attendees will provide input on the evidence-based needs assessment of public health workers and the curriculum frameworks. As the project moves forward, Advisory Workgroup members will have opportunities to provide feedback on slide presentations, videos, and case studies, as well as participate in pilot testing. APTR members may also join the webinar without serving on the Workgroup. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the learning needs and knowledge gaps identified by public health workers through focus groups and surveys, pre- and post-COVID-19.
  • Assess the learning objectives of the six modules.
  • Discuss the proposed PowerPoint lecture content, supplemental videos, and case studies to be included in the mini-course.
