Treasurer & Secretary Positions

This is an Association-leading volunteer position, ideal for those interested in determining and advancing strategic directions, governing over long-term goals, representing the Association to other members, and setting the tone for member experiences. By serving on the Board of Directors, volunteers actively engage with the Association's strategies, finances, and governance to further enhance the community and lead the future of APTR.

The APTR Board of Directors consists of the Executive Committee (President, President-Elect or Past-President, Treasurer, & Secretary) and 9 Board Members that are elected representatives of the APTR membership at-large.

Board members serve three-year staggered terms starting in March. Three (3) Board Members are elected annually.

Treasurer Position

  • Serve on the Executive Committee and attend all meetings (every other month)
  • Prepare for, attend, and participate in all Board meetings (1 in-person Spring meeting held at the annual conference; 1 virtual meeting in October, 2 additional virtual Board update meetings).
  • Chair the Finance Committee
  • Provide financial oversight for the Association
  • Review and provide feedback on operating budgets prepared by Association staff
  • Present a financial report on all financial transactions at each meeting of the Board
  • In consultation with the Executive Director, prepare annual budgets for approval by the Board of Directors.
  • In consultation with the Executive Director, finance committee and appropriate external financial experts, present regular updates on long-term financial strategy
  • In conjunction with the Executive Director, ensure that an audit is conducted of APTR financial records
  • Complete other duties as delegated by the President

Secretary

  • Serve on the Executive Committee and attend all meetings (every other month)
  • Prepare for, attend, and participate in all Board meetings (1 in-person Spring meeting held at the annual conference; 1 virtual meeting in October, 2 additional virtual Board update meetings).
  • In consultation with the President and Executive Director, prepare the agendas for the Board meetings.
  • Ensure maintenance of records of the Association's meetings, proceedings, and resolutions.
  • Arrange such details of meetings as are not otherwise delegated to others.
  • Complete other duties as delegated by the President.

Eligibility

  • Full-time employment in higher-education
  • Active APTR membership
  • Institutional support

Expectations

  • Maintain an active Association membership for the duration of their term.
  • Maintain employment at a higher education institution
  • Financial support (institutional or personal) is required to cover travel costs to attend the APTR annual meeting-Teaching Prevention.
  • Understand the APTR mission, vision, and purpose.
