This is an Association-leading volunteer position, ideal for those interested in determining and advancing strategic directions, governing over long-term goals, representing the Association to other members, and setting the tone for member experiences. The President serves as the President-Elect for a one-year term prior to serving as President for two years, and as Past President for a one-year term after serving as President.
The President chairs the Executive Committee (President, President-Elect or Past President, Treasurer, Secretary).
President-Elect Position
- Perform the duties of the President in the absence of the President
- Serve on the Executive Committee and attend all meetings (virtual every other month)
- Prepare for, attend, and participate in all Board meetings (1 in-person Spring meeting held at the annual conference; 1 virtual meeting in October, 2 additional virtual Board update meetings).
- Serve on the Finance Committee
President Position
- Serve as Chair of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee
- Lead the Executive Committee and attend all meetings (virtual every other month)
- Prepare for, attend, and participate in all Board meetings (1 in-person Spring meeting held at the annual conference; 1 virtual meeting in October, 2 additional virtual Board update meetings).
- Prepare the agenda, in consultation with the Executive Director and Secretary, and preside at all meetings of APTR, including but not limited to, the meetings of the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and the annual business meeting
- Serve on the Finance Committee
- Direct the strategic planning process for the Association
- Communicate routinely with the Executive Director regarding operations of the Association
- Make all leadership appointments with the approval of the Executive Committee based on recommendations from the Nominations Subcommittee and in consultation with Association staff
- Appoint ad-hoc committees and task forces as deemed necessary for specific functions/initiatives, with the approval of the Board of Directors and in consultation with the Association staff
- Work with Executive Director to establish and maintain relationships with internal and external constituents
Past-President Position
- Prepare for, attend, and participate in all Board meetings (1 in-person Spring meeting held at the annual conference; 1 virtual meeting in October, 2 additional virtual Board update meetings).
- Chair the Nominations Subcommittee
- Serve on the Finance Committee
- Complete other duties as delegated by the President

Expectations
- Financial support (institutional or personal) is required to cover travel costs to attend the APTR annual meeting-Teaching Prevention.
- Applicants must understand the APTR mission, vision, and purpose.
