Immunization Projects

Immunization Projects

This project ended in 2022

APTR has a long history of working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center on Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD), to develop and enhance educational and training programs around immunizations.  Since 1990, APTR has partnered with CDC NCIRD and other professional organizations to assess immunization training needs of health professionals and develop appropriate programs, publications workshops, presentations, articles, and websites based on those assessments.

Teaching Immunization for Medical Education

The TIME modules provide ready-to-use instructional materials that can be integrated into existing medical curricula. The case-based modules are designed to encourage active, small-group learning, use modest amounts of faculty and learner time and are objective-driven.  The materials provide learning objectives, key teaching points, and resources.

The modules include:

  • Vaccine indications and contraindications
  • Immunization schedules
  • Recommendations on efficient ways to increase vaccination levels

Immunization Resources for Undergraduate Nursing

In 2015, it became clear that the recent climate around immunizations, advancements in teaching methods for health professions education, and the practice of nursing called for enhanced immunization resources for training and education of nurses. APTR and CDC initiated the Immunization Resources for Undergraduate Nursing Education (IRUN) project to offer teaching resources to increase immunization content in undergraduate nursing curricula and ensure a future nursing workforce that supports the Healthy People 2030 objectives.
