APTR-AHRQ Preventive Medicine Residency Rotations

Due to decisions of the current administration, this program is paused indefinitely.

 

Interested candidates should review the Request for Applications (RFA)  document carefully and preview the Application Form Contents to prepare materials required for the  Application Submission. All applications must be submitted online. Applicants from diverse backgrounds and perspectives are encouraged to apply. Support for these rotations is renewed annually and is contingent on funding.

Eligibility

    • U.S. Citizen
    • Current Preventive Medicine Resident
    • Current Primary Care Resident (Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, or Obstetrics/Gynecology) with a demonstrated interest in prevention, public health, or health policy are also encouraged to apply.

APTR Membership 

Accepted AHRQ Residents must hold a current APTR Resident membership or be from Institutions that hold a current APTR Academic Unit membership.

Selection Criteria

    Applicants will be evaluated based upon the following criteria:

    • Demonstrated interest in prevention or primary care
    • Demonstrated interest in domestic health policy 
    • Experience in prevention or primary care
    • Scientific writing ability

Timeline

    • November 7, 2024 - Application Cycle Open
    • January 10, 2025 - Application Deadline
    • March - Resident Notifications
    • May - Resident Commitments Due

Period of Performance

Eight-week contiguous rotations from July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026. Residents will select preferred rotation months at the time of application.

Financial Support  

A stipend and residency program administrative fee, currently totaling $10,040, may be provided directly to the residency program for the eight-week rotation. The Residency Program is responsible for payment of any salary and compensation to the Resident.  

Residency Programs funded by the federal government cannot receive the Resident Stipend (currently $8,000) but may be eligible for the Residency Program Administrative Fee (currently $2,040). Sources of federal funding include, but are not limited to: CMS, HRSA, the Commissioned Corps, and other branches of the military.

  • Scientific Writing Sample (primary author, published or unpublished)
