APTR advances the work and scholarship of its members and prevention and public health education through member representation on the following groups.

Association of American Medical Colleges Council of Academic Societies >>

CAS is comprised of APTR and nearly 90 academic societies devoted to biomedical and behavioral research, medical education, and patient care. The CAS is a powerful forum for discussing and exchanging information of common interest to medical school faculty and for evaluating and recommending policy initiatives to the association. APTR, as a member,is eligible to appoint two representatives to the Council. These representatives elect the governing CAS Administrative Board.

Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice >>

The Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice (Council on Linkages) is a coalition of representatives from 19 national organizations including APTR. It has been furthering academic/practice collaboration to assure a well-trained, competent workforce and strong, evidence-based public health infrastructure since 1992. Council on Linkages projects are funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Staff support is provided by the Public Health Foundation.

CDC Task Force on Community Preventive Services >>

The Task Force is an independent, non-governmental, volunteer body of public health and prevention experts, whose members are appointed by the Director of CDC. The role of the Task Force is to oversee systematic reviews led by CDC scientists; carefully consider and summarize review results; make recommendations for interventions that promote population health; identify areas within the reviewed topics that need more research.

National Board of Public Health Examiners (NBPHE) >>

An independent organization to ensure that students and graduates from schools and programs of public health accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) have mastered the knowledge and skills relevant to contemporary public health. This purpose will be accomplished by developing, preparing, administering and evaluating a voluntary certification exam.
