Membership is open to academic programs that advance public health, preventive medicine and population health. These include: preventive medicine, community medicine, and family medicine departments; graduate programs in public health; and health professions programs with a population health focus

The APTR Council of Graduate Programs in Public Health represents accredited and emerging graduate public health programs and provides a forum for graduate programs and their faculty across the U.S. that grant public health degrees. Through the Council hundreds of faculty from graduate programs are provided curriculum and networking resources. The Council consists of any degree-granting program at the graduate level which prepares students for professional careers in preventive medicine, social medicine, community health and/or public health. These programs must be an institutional member of APTR. 

Membership Includes:

Individual memberships for faculty from your department and/or program.

  • Level 3 includes 5 individual memberships.
  • Level 2 includes 9 individual memberships.
  • Level 1 includes 15 individual memberships.

Subscriptions to the American Journal of Preventive Medicine (AJPM)

Discounted registrations to Teaching Prevention, the APTR annual meeting that provides an opportunity for networking and education across health professions with a population health focus.

Eligibility to represent your program and APTR on national boards, councils, and committees.

APTR-AHRQ Health Policy Residency Rotations in Preventive Medicine offer APTR members access to continuing field placements for Preventive Medicine and Primary Care residents based at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.


APTR Awards Program provides the opportunity for APTR members to be nationally recognized for their contributions to preventive medicine and public health education, research, and service.

Curriculum Assistance with implementing new public health education recommendations.

APTR advances the work and scholarship of its members and prevention and population health education through member representation on federal and national groups.

APTR News Now, the E-newsletter of the association, highlights current activities and initiatives and provides updates for members on how policy affects academic population health and prevention, as well as funding opportunities, and member updates.

APTR Publications offers resources, curriculum, teaching materials, and self-study courses to support the teaching of clinical prevention and population health.

The APTR Career Center contains faculty or academic positions. APTR members may post unlimited listings at no cost.
