What makes APTR distinct is the interprofessional make-up of our members who are public health, medical and health professions faculty and their institutions. Membership is open to deans, program directors, residency directors faculty, students, and residents from all health professions, as well as their institutions. By uniting health professions educators, APTR is strengthening medicine and population health.

Teaching Tools and Curriculum Resources

  • APTR develops and disseminates curricula such as curriculum planning tools, teaching modules, case studies, toolkits, and instructor guides. Teaching tools and curriculum resources are limited for student and retired members. 
  • Memberships with limited access: retired, student


  • The APTR Awards Program provides the opportunity for APTR members to be nationally recognized for their contributions to preventive medicine and public health education, research, and service. Each year, APTR honors the most distinguished individuals and programs in the field of prevention and public health education. Through their dedication, the awardees exemplify the goal of advancing education and serving the community. 


  • A direct connection to peers through the APTR online member directory search tool.

Teaching Prevention Conference

  • Member pricing to attend Teaching Prevention, the annual conference of the association and provides an opportunity for networking and education across health professions with a population health focus.

Leadership Opportunities 

  • Members have the opportunity to represent APTR and the field on federal and national groups. Through coalitions and working closely with other health professions organizations, APTR generates policy, tracks legislative and regulatory developments, and advocates for issues of importance to academic population health and prevention.
  • Participation in APTR committees and task forces.


  • Subscription to American Journal of Preventive Medicine, the official journal of APTR that publishes monthly issues in the areas of prevention research, teaching, practice and policy.
  • Subscription to APTR News Now, the e-newsletter of the association, highlighting current activities and initiatives, updates for members on how policy affects academic population health and prevention, as well as funding and other opportunities.

  • The APTR Career Center contains faculty or academic positions. APTR members may post unlimited listings at no cost.

Institutional Membership

Institutional membership in APTR provides you and your faculty all of the above benefits plus:

  • Grant funding and training opportunities available exclusively to APTR Institutional members.
  • Access to continuing education and teaching tools for your students
  • Access to funding support for students and faculty to attend Teaching Prevention

Graduate Public Health Program Members

  • Membership in the APTR Council of Graduate Programs in Public Health provides a forum for graduate programs and their faculty. The Council serves as the focal point for information sharing and discussion to address issues of concern.
  • The Council meets annually at the APTR annual meeting.
  • Members receive support implementing and maintaining public health education recommendations.
