Teaching Prevention 2020

APTR offers professional and faculty development opportunities in order to further knowledge and experience in the fields of disease prevention and health promotion.

APTR Programs are developed to enhance the teaching, research, and practice of prevention and public health faculty and students and are tied to the APTR priorities areas.

Clinical Prevention and Population Health

APTR will establish a more prominent advocacy role to obtain support for research, education and improved practice in the areas of clinical prevention and population health for individuals, families and communities.

Graduate Education in Public Health

APTR will increase its activities in order to advance graduate public health education including representing and supporting the U.S. Graduate Programs in Public Health. Graduate public health education is necessary to strengthen the public health workforce. Improving skills and competencies among a range of public health professionals as well as members of other disciplines where clinical prevention and population health is of growing importance.

Interprofessional Education

APTR provides resources for, and collaborates with, multiple health professions disciplines to advance the knowledge and skills of professionals and students in the areas of clinical prevention and population health.

Undergraduate Education in Public Health

APTR will increase its activities in order to expand access for faculty to educational opportunities and resources designed to support integration of public health into the undergraduate curriculum. Undergraduate public health education, as part of general education, serves to develop an educated citizenry to support future prevention and public health efforts. The Institute of Medicine has recommended that "…all undergraduates have access to education in public health”.
