Each webpage within the toolkit either provides access to a set of folders, or provides direct access to a set or resources: websites, files, or links to important readings.

Understanding the relationship between culture and communication is essential to meeting the needs of diverse populations and improving health care and results. With proper training, teaching materials, and reinforcement, health organizations can address the cultural and language differences between the people who provide information or services and the people they serve.

Health professionals and educators can use the Primer for teaching cultural competency as a starting point. The Primer: Cultural Competency and Health Literacy guide provides teaching tools to improve cross-cultural communications skills, deliver culturally and linguistically appropriate healthcare services to diverse populations, and develop programs and policies to improve health outcomes and reduce health disparities.

The Public Health 101 Series is a set of courses that provides an introduction to public health and covers the sciences essential to public health practice. The course topics include epidemiology, public health surveillance, public health laboratories, public health informatics, and prevention effectiveness. The courses are designed for:

  • Public health professionals who have not had formal training in a particular core area or who would like a refresher
  • Persons new to public health
  • Public health educators and instructors 
  • Persons interested in pursuing public health careers

Webinars and additional Quick Learn Lessons and will also be added to the series in the future.

APTR is proud to announce the official launch of a new immunization resource, Medical Assistants Resources and Training on Immunization (MARTi). 

MARTi is an online resource designed for medical assistants.Through MARTi, medical assistants can discover and access multiple educational modules along with other materials housed online. MARTi training includes: Vaccine Administration, Vaccines for Specific Diseases, Patient Education, Record Keeping, Vaccine Safety, Immunization Schedules, and Storage and Handling. 

MARTi was developed and is funded through a cooperative agreement between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Association for Prevention Teaching and Research.

The Community Guide Toolbox  works hand-in-hand with The Community Guide website to help public health practitioners apply evidence-based intervention strategies. The Toolbox contains more than 20 tools for putting the recommendations found in The Community Guide into practice.

The Guide to Community Preventive Services is a free resource to help you choose programs and policies to improve health and prevent disease in your community. Systematic reviews are used to answer these questions:

  • Which program and policy interventions have been proven effective?
  • Are there effective interventions that are right for my community?
  • What might effective interventions cost; what is the likely return on investment?

The CIR site contains graphical interpretations of both aggregate and historical curriculum-related data, including more than 40 new and updated curriculum reports based on data from the 2012 LCME Annual Questionnaire Part II.

The reports reflect data from all U.S. medical schools and include interactive charts with trends up to 10 years. There are five categories of curriculum reports that you may find useful: Content and Competencies; Curriculum Design and Policies; Instruction and Assessment; Programs and Institutions; and Resources and Technology.
