Innovation in Public Health Education

The Innovation in Public Health Education project built on the Institute of Medicine (IOM) reports "The Future of the Public's Health in the 21st Century" and "Who Will Keep the Public Healthy? Educating Public Health Professionals for the 21st Century". These reports recommend that all undergraduates have access to education in public health and encourage faculty development.

Funded through the APTR-CDC Cooperative Agreement, the project increased the design, teaching and evaluation of introductory undergraduate course work in public health and in epidemiology and facilitated exchange of experience by faculty engaged in undergraduate public health teaching. The project also provided a formal opportunity for interactions between member institutions of the Council of Graduate Programs in Public Health that are currently providing undergraduate course work.

Funding was awarded to 13 institutions that taught and evaluated 8 public health and 6 epidemiology courses for undergraduates.
