Improving Health WITH Communities: The Role of Community Engagement in Clinical and Translational Research

Poster Presentation & Abstract Request

DEADLINE: March 19, 2009

Who Should Submit A Poster Abstract?

Academic faculty, trainees, community based health care providers and community researchers interested in participating in the poster sessions are invited to submit abstracts for poster presentation on community engagement in clinical and translational research (e.g. community/academia partnerships, community and practice research partnerships, practice research and academic partnerships, education and training of academic researchers and community partners).

Audience for this conference will include community researchers, practice based researchers and academic researchers interested in community engagement and partnerships in research as well as those interested in community engaged research.

Please Note:

Abstracts accepted for poster presentation will be reprinted for distribution in the workshop binder and posted with other workshop documents on public website. Authors should consider whether sensitive or unpublished findings are appropriate for such distribution.

Preparation and Submission of Poster Abstracts

Abstracts should summarize the proposed content of the material to be presented and submitted electronically by midnight March 19, 2009. The body of the abstract should not exceed 300 words, text only

Review and Notification Process

You will be notified by March 26, 2009 regarding acceptance of your submitted abstract for poster presentation.  Posters will be selected through a competitive process. The poster session committee will evaluate all submissions by the following criteria:

  • relevance to the workshop topic,
  • evidence of community benefit or improved health outcomes,
  • importance of the project in regards to the problem addressed;
  • organization;
  • quality and clarity;
  • methods used

All abstracts containing the required information and submitted by the March 19, 2009, deadline will be reviewed. The number of abstracts that will be accepted is limited by available space.

Registration Requirements

Poster presenters MUST register to attend the workshop and must be available at their posters for a designated time. We would like to stress that authors SHOULD honor their commitment of presenting their posters for which abstracts have been accepted.

Funding for travel and accommodations is not available for this workshop from program organizers. We urge participants with accepted posters to contact sources at their respective institutions for funding.

Set-Up Deadline: Thursday, May 14. 2009 by 8:30 am
Tear Down: Friday, May 15, 2009 between 1:30 and 4:00 pm.

Thursday, May 14, 2009         11:30 am–1:00 pm
Friday, May 15, 2009              11:30 am–1:00 pm

Size of display

Posters will be a maximum of 4 feet x 6 feet including the title. Poster boards/tack pins will be provided.
