POLICY COMMITTEE WORK

APTR Policy Committee

Chair: Sabrina M Neeley, PhD, MPH; Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine

Purpose

To provide APTR members with opportunities to engage with and participate in important public health policy issues.

Overview

This committee was established to identify policy issues of concern to APTR and APTR members that relate to prevention and public health generally and that also have particular relevance for those in prevention and public health education and research. The committee is charged with identifying one or two issues of greatest immediate importance, with a reassessment every year or 6 months to one year.

Duties of the Committee

  • Identify useful teaching resources to share with the membership
  • Identify APTR members who are subject matter experts and are willing to provide expertise to APTR, the membership, and perhaps a broader audience

  • Prepare a “toolkit for action” proposing a list of activities that faculty and students could engage in to support or advocate for the policy position taken by APTR.

  • Responsible for a session at the APTR annual meeting. The session could include an update on where the issue is in the policy stream, methods to teach on these particular issues in the classroom, and actions taken by APTR, members, and or student groups using the toolkit for action.
