Purpose and Background

The Association for Prevention Teaching and Research (APTR) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announce the availability of funds to develop case studies aimed at enhancing resources for teaching immunization in undergraduate nursing programs.

On June 6-7, 2016 APTR and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center on Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD), convened representatives from 14 academic nursing organizations for the 2nd meeting of the Advisory Committee on Integration of Immunization into Undergraduate Nursing Curriculum. Advancements in teaching methods for health professions education and the practice of nursing have resulted in the need to enhance immunization resources for training and education of nurses.

The advisory committee reviewed a curriculum framework and provided recommendations for the development of new case study resources based on gaps identified within CDC’s existing case studies. The new case studies will be made available along with the CDC-developed case studies and other resources on the APTR Immunization Resources for Undergraduate Nursing website. A media announcement will be released to disseminate and market the full collection of case studies.

This funding opportunity is made available by the National Center on Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Since 1990, APTR has partnered with CDC and other professional organizations to assess immunization training needs of health professionals and develop appropriate programs, publications workshops, presentations, articles, and websites based on those assessments. http://www.cdc.gov/ophss/csels/dsepd/academic-partnerships/index.html
