Chirag B. Patel, a 2005 Paul Ambrose Scholar, was awarded first place honors at the University of Texas School of Health Information Sciences at Houston's Advances in Teaching and Learning Day for his project titled "Assessing Medical Student's Readiness to Screen for Domestic Violence." The Advances in Teaching and Learning Day is a regional conference designed to showcase research and innovations in teaching, learning, and technology. This interdisciplinary meeting is a venue for faculty of higher education in the Health Sciences to come together to share ideas and network in this rapidly changing time in academia.
Patel stated, "I learned that a lot of planning goes into the follow-up project. I had thought that I'd have the project completed during the fall semester. However, in retrospect, I am pleased that I waited to plan a successful event for spring semester instead." His advice for future Paul Ambrose Scholars "Plan early. Find mentors. Advertise widely. Stay motivated."
