APTR Awarded AHRQ Contract to Develop Preventive Medicine Residency Rotations

The Association for Prevention Teaching and Research (APTR) is pleased to announce a new contract with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to provide field placements for Preventive Medicine and Primary Care residents at AHRQ. As part of the Department of Health and Human Services, AHRQ is the lead agency supporting the work of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF), which rigorously evaluates the effectiveness of clinical preventive services and formulates recommendations for primary care clinicians. In addition, AHRQ conducts research and collaborates with other agencies and organizations on efforts to improve the delivery of clinical preventive services.

The clinical preventive medicine rotation at AHRQ will give Preventive Medicine residents an in-depth experience in the process of developing evidence-based recommendations.  Residents will work closely with AHRQ staff and USPSTF members in a variety of activities, from conducting literature reviews of Clinical Preventive Services topics to editing and finalizing recommendations and rationale statements.

The application cycle will  open in mid-October with applications due in January.  Rotations will begin in July 2016. A monthly stipend of $3,100 and admin fee of $1,020 will be paid to the residency program for each 2-3 month rotation.
