About this Workshop
Together with the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP), the Association for Prevention Teaching and Research (APTR) sponsored the Healthy People 2020 Academic Stakeholders Workshop designed to gather input on Healthy People 2020 issues of primary importance to educators.
This workshop provided an opportunity to build and strengthen partnerships for the Healthy People initiative between HHS and academic health professions stakeholders as well as :
- Discuss uses of Healthy People 2020 in health professions education and research
- Identify faculty information needs
- Suggest tools for facilitating the use of Healthy People 2020
- Discuss the roles academics can play in implementation and dissemination
- Make recommendations for the objective development process which will begin in 2009
- Discuss the Education for Health framework being proposed as an educational underpinning for Healthy People 2020.
Participants included:
- APTR members who represent the academic preventive medicine and public health community
and Directors of graduate programs in public health,
- Faculty from the health professions represented on the APTR Healthy People Curriculum Task Force
- Faculty representatives from other health profession education organizations.
